In Memoriam: Former Assistant Dean Tere Linehan

Tere Linehan, who was assistant dean for external relations in the College of Science before she retired in July 2011, passed away on Aug. 16. Linehan, who was 64, had cancer.

In her 10 years at Mason, Linehan also served as director of development and assistant dean for the College of Arts and Sciences, now the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Linehan was the subject of a Mason Gazette article about her jewelry-making hobby, and she was a member of the Northern Virginia Handcrafters Guild. According to an obituary in the Washington Post, Linehan was also involved with animal rescue efforts and owned two dogs at the time of her death.

A graduate of Colorado State University, Linehan served on the boards of the National Capital Gift Planning Council and the Association of Fundraising Professionals of the National Capital Area. She also volunteered for the Smithsonian Resident Associate Program.

Survivors include three brothers, Robert, Shawn and Kevin Linehan. Funeral services are private. Memorial donations in her name may be sent to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 100968, Arlington, VA 22210.
