Helen Frederick, Art Studio, has been chosen to receive a Governor’s Art Award from Maryland Gov. Parris Glendening in June. She will accept the award at ArtSalute, an annual celebration of Maryland’s best artists, patrons, and businesses involved in the arts.

Frederick was nominated for her work with Pyramid Atlantic, an artists’ workshop she founded in 1981 that supports papermaking, printmaking, and book arts. Located in Riverdale, Md., Pyramid Atlantic supports professional artist residencies, student apprenticeships, public school outreach, and educational programs.

Frederick’s art, painting, printmaking, and mixed media received national attention when she mounted a one-person exhibition that traveled to New York, Florida, and Philadelphia. Along with work from other Art Studio professors, two of Frederick’s prints are on exhibit in the Mason Hall Atrium until July 30.
