Spring Cinema Series Announced

The Johnson Center Cinema Series continues for the spring 2008 semester and brings a new selection of Hollywood films to the big screen.

All films are free to students with a Mason ID, $1 for faculty and staff and $3 for the outside community. Free popcorn is available at all showings.

Smith Sets NCAA Record as Men’s Basketball Beats JMU, 96-75

Dre Smith set an NCAA record for three-pointers in a game without a miss, and his career-high 34 points pushed the Patriots to a 96-75 win over James Madison in front of 6,659 fans at JMU Convocation Center.

“Kriging” and “hot spot analysis” are unfamiliar terms to many; however, students who take Spatial Data Analysis with GIS, a section of PUBP 710, know that they are commonly used methods of collecting, interpreting and using data in spatial statistics and geographic information systems (GIS).

Mason Forensics Team Wins at Top National Competition

For the first time, Mason’s Forensics Team won the competition on both days of the Hell Froze Over National Invitational Forensics Tournament held at the University of Texas at Austin, Jan. 12-13.

Mason Researchers Work to Smooth Transitions for Young Students with Cancer

Mason researchers Jean B. Moore and Carol Kaffenberger have each spent a large part of their careers trying to make life better for children with cancer. Now they have joined forces and are working on the Student Reentry Project, which examines how students who have cancer and their school systems are affected.

Men’s Basketball Beats Hofstra in Double Overtime, 85-78

The men’s basketball team held off a late Hofstra rally on Thursday to take an 85-78 win in double overtime.

Fine Arts Gallery to Showcase ‘5 Photographers’

A new photography exhibition at Mason’s Fine Arts Gallery, “5 Photographers,” will display the work of five visual artists/photographers, beginning Jan. 22 and running through Feb. 15 in the Fine Arts Gallery on the Fairfax Campus.

An opening reception at the gallery on Jan. 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. will honor artists Gabriela Bulisova, Kelly Carr-Shaffer, Chan Chao, Jessica Cook and Xang Ho.
