Mason E-mail System to Get Spam Filter Upgrade

On Sunday, Dec. 10, Mason’s Information Technology Unit will be upgrading the software that filters e-mail messages identified as spam or containing viruses.

Board of Visitors Approves Change in Departmental Status, New Degrees

At its meeting this week, Mason’s Board of Visitors approved two new degree programs and established a Department of Administration of Justice in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Patriots Take 62-60 Win at Radford

The George Mason men’s basketball team (4-3) played from behind for nearly the entire game but finally took a lead for good with 3:17 to play at Radford University Wednesday night. The Patriots survived the Highlanders’ best shot to escape with a 62-60 win.

The Five-Minute Interview: Tom O’Connor, Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics

Tom O’Connor was named Mason athletic director in 1994 and received the added title of assistant vice president in 1999. Under his leadership, the men’s indoor track and field team won the national championship in 1996; the Patriots ranked first among Division I-AAA (nonfootball) institutions in the 1995 and 1997 Sears Directors’ Cup; and last spring the men’s basketball team became the first school from the Colonial Athletic Association to advance to the NCAA Final Four.

Public Policy PhD Student Awarded Kauffman Dissertation Fellowship

Each year, PhD students from around the country – like Mason’s Ting Zhang – submit research proposals to the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. From a pool of nearly 100 proposals, the foundation selects 15 to fund.
