The same day George Mason men’s basketball Head Coach Jim Larranaga was nominated for an ESPN ESPY Award as Best Coach/Manager and the team was nominated for Best Moment, Larranaga and two players received honors from the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
Larranaga was named the Virginia Coach of the Year, forward Jai Lewis was named first-team All-State, and guard Lamar Butler was chosen to the All-State second team.
Larranaga previously won the Coach of the Year honor in 1999 when he was named VaSID, CAA and NABC District 4 Coach of the Year.

Heavy rains over the weekend washed out Fairfax Campus roads in two different places. The Nottoway River Road (the Sideburn Road-extended entrance to the campus) is washed out at the culvert just before Patriot Circle.

ESPN has announced that George Mason University has been nominated for “Best Moment” and “Best Coach” in the 14th Annual ESPY Awards.
The winners will be selected by popular vote. Fans can cast their vote online.

On June 19, the first group of incoming freshmen and their parents descended on the Fairfax Campus for an Orientation program, a ritual that will be repeated throughout the summer. It used to be that new students would walk somewhat ahead of their parent or parents or 10 steps behind – but certainly not with their family.

Albert Dwoskin, CEO and president of A.J. Dwoskin and Associates Inc., was re-elected chairman of the George Mason University Foundation Board of Trustees at the board’s annual meeting.
The Board of Trustees generates, manages, invests and administers private support on behalf of the university.
