Palmiero Announces Plans to Leave SCHEV

Phyllis Palmiero, executive director of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) recently announced plans to step down from her position in September to spend more time with her family and pursue new professional interests.

Freshmen Move in to Presidents Park Today

Presidents Park comes alive today and tomorrow with excited students and anxious parents sharing the first-time ritual of moving the family freshman to campus. The days are filled with check-ins for university services, orientations for international students, and meetings for resident and commuter students.

Patriots Ranked Nationally in Final Baseball Stats

Several George Mason individuals and the Patriot team as a whole are ranked highly in several categories in the final NCAA Division I baseball statistics for 2003. As a team, George Mason was ranked 26th in the nation with a .970 fielding percentage to lead all teams in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).

Fairfax Campus Traffic Pattern to Be Affected This Week

Tomorrow and Friday more than 1,200 freshmen residents and their families will be using Parking Lots A and B for check-in and vehicle staging for move-in. Those who normally park in these lots or have a reserved parking space are being asked to use the Parking Deck, where there will be no charge on these days.

National Center for Biodefense Receives Funding for Biomedical Research

The National Center for Biodefense (NCBD) has been awarded $1.4 million from the U.S. Department of Defense for biomedical research focused on developing new methods of prophylaxis and treatment strategies to augment military medical defense against the threat of biological weapons.

George Mason men’s soccer Head Coach Fran O’Leary has announced 13 newcomers, including 7 transfers, who will join the Patriots for the 2003 season. Among the new players are four with ties to Northern Virginia.

After the announcement of the 2003-04 season of Great Performances at Mason, The Washington Post called it a “program that will span high and pop art with impressive elan, including the ballet, the circus, and a trio of Korean sisters covering the Doors.” Tickets for the entire season go on sale Tuesday, Sept. 2.
