Folk Artist Displays Re-emergence in Johnson Center Gallery

Folk artist Cher Shaffer’s paintings and sculptures embody the spirit of Appalachian culture at the same time they try to dispel the stereotypes surrounding the people of that area. Her artwork is currently displayed in the Johnson Center Gallery through Dec. 20 in an exhibit called Re-emergence.

Outstanding Supervisor Award Nominations Due Dec. 16

Nominations for the Outstanding Supervisor Award are due in the Staff Senate Office by Monday, Dec. 16. The award is given to supervisors of classified and non-student wage employees who most closely meet the criteria below.

Women’s Volleyball Team to Meet Michigan State in NCAA Tournament

The George Mason women’s volleyball team will head to South Bend, Ind., to play Michigan State on Saturday, Dec. 7, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Student Health Services Installs Innovative Check-In Software

George Mason has partnered with Nuesoft Technologies Inc. to provide a first-of-its-kind Student Self Check-In module for the Health and Wellness Center. Proposed by Director Mary Ann Braun, the electrical medical system uses state-of-the-art technology to integrate and automate operational support. The software was installed in October, making George Mason the first university in the nation with such a system.

Mason Enterprise Center Reinventing Vision of an Entrepreneurial University

When the GMU Entrepreneurship Center was transformed into the Mason Enterprise Center in 1999, its mission was to link and help embed entrepreneurship into every academic unit at George Mason and to use that entrepreneurial dimension to foster a culture of innovation in the Northern Virginia and greater Washington metropolitan regions.

Spuhler Field Earns STMA Baseball Field of the Year Award

George Mason’s Raymond H. “Hap” Spuhler Field has been selected as the 2002 Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) Baseball Field of the Year in the College/University division.

Bookstore Holds Faculty/Staff Appreciation Days Beginning Tomorrow

The Bookstore holds its annual faculty/staff appreciation day tomorrow and has extended it a second day to include Wednesday. The normal 10 percent discount for faculty and staff members will be extended to 20 percent for all merchandise except software, textbooks, and magazines.

Nooshi Mohebi is December Employee of the Month

Mehmush Nooshi Mohebi, better known as Nooshi, a program support technician for the Computer Science Department, is the December Employee of the Month. “I actually work as a graduate coordinator,” she says. “I assist our graduate students in their attempts to start their education here, and follow them through their education process until they graduate from George Mason,” she says.
