Clay T. “Tom” Whitehead, 69, former Distinguished Visiting Professor of Communications Policy at Mason and the nation’s first telecommunications policy advisor, died July 23.

Mason’s memorial grove lies on the eastern side of the Mason Pond on the Fairfax Campus. Most of the trees are Yoshino cherry, the same variety as those planted around the tidal basin in Washington, D.C.

Richard P. Evans, former professor of systems engineering at Mason, died on Monday, Feb. 4. Evans was 74 years old.
