Early in the second half of Friday night’s game at Winston-Salem, N.C., things looked pretty bad for the George Mason Patriots. Mason was shooting just .355 from the field against Wake Forest University and trailed the nation’s 18th-ranked team by 19 on its home floor. But that’s when things turned around completely.

Men’s and Women’s Swim Teams Succeed at Meet

Competition concluded on Saturday in the Colonial Athletic Association four-team swimming and diving pod meet at Davidson College. In the final team standings, George Mason’s men’s team posted head-to-head wins over Davidson College, College of Charleston and Drexel University, while the Patriots on the women’s side defeated Drexel and Davidson, but fell to Charleston by one point.

The George Mason men’s basketball team played its lone exhibition game of the season on Sunday afternoon at the Patriot Center, and Mason looked more than ready for the 2005-06 season to get under way.

George Mason University freshman forward Lucas Pardew was named Brine Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for his efforts against the College of William and Mary in the Patriots’ final home game of the 2005 campaign.

George Mason sophomore forward Dan Ames was tabbed Brine Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for his two game-winning goals.

Golf Team Ends Season with Win for Kirby

Mason’s Mike Kirby was the leader to start the third and final round at the first annual Frank Landrey Intercollegiate Invitational, and he didn’t falter, winning his second straight tournament and catapulting Mason to a second-place finish on Oct. 18.

George Mason senior Mike Kirby shot a course-record 61 at last week’s James Madison University (JMU) Men’s Golf Invitational to lead his team to the championship. This is the second tournament the Patriots golfers have won this season, after winning the opening tournament at Navy Sept. 10-11.
