Men’s Basketball Falls to Penn State in Overtime

The Mason men’s basketball fell to the Penn State Nittany Lions, 77-73, in an exciting overtime game in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) on Tuesday.

Mason men’s basketball team earned a berth in the 2009 National Invitation Tournament on Sunday night. The Patriots were selected as a seventh seed and will play a first-round game at second-seeded Penn State (22-11) on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.

Freshman Mendbagana Tovuujav earned Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at the 2009 Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Saturday.

For the third time in the past six years the Mason men’s basketball team took on the VCU Rams in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship Game, and for the third time, the Rams beat the Patriots. Monday’s score was 71-50.

Men’s Basketball Advances to CAA Title Game

Cam Long was named third-team All-CAA this season and if anything, he may not have gotten enough respect. The sophomore point guard showed that he belongs among the Colonial Athletic Association’s elite when he drained three three-pointers in the final 10 minutes on Sunday as Mason finished with a 11-3 run to beat Towson, 56-48, and advance to the CAA Championship Game.

Men’s Basketball Heads to CAA Tournament

As the Mason men’s basketball team heads to Richmond for the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament, they leave behind a record-setting season.

In their last game against Towson, the team completed the school’s first unbeaten regular season at Patriot Center, and at the same time, clinched the second seed in the tournament.

The Patriots (20-9, 13-5) are 14-0 at home, and they ran their current home winning streak to 16 games, one shy of the school’s Division I record. For just the second time in school history, Mason has won 20 games in back-to-back seasons.

University Life is once again sponsoring Get on the Bus to the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament in Richmond to cheer on the men’s basketball team the weekend of March 6.

McLaughlin Named CAA Co-Wrestler of the Week

Sophomore Frankie McLaughlin IV was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Wrestler of the Week for his performance in three dual matches during the final week of the 2008-09 dual season.

McLaughlin improved his record to 23-9 overall with the three victories.

Chan Named to Canadian National Lacrosse Team for 2009 World Cup

Mason senior Alana Chan was one of 18 players chosen to represent the Canadian National Team at the 2009 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic, June 18-27.
