For the past few years, Chakib Jaber has been an entrepreneur by day and a student by night. As vice president of a small software consulting organization and a student in the MBA Program in the School of Management, Jaber utilized the facilities, courses, and professor expertise at Mason to get his education. However, he also has utilized another important resource on campus that has already helped immensely—the Arlington Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

Equity Office Hires New Associate Director

The Office of Equity and Diversity Services (OEDS) is starting the academic year with renewed dedication in its mission and a new staff member to ensure that mission continues to be fulfilled. Josephine “Josie” Evola, formerly with Illinois State University’s Office for Diversity and Affirmative Action, became Mason’s new associate director of equity and diversity services on July 1.

VA SCAN Receives Educause Award

The Virginia Alliance for Secure Computing and Networking (VA SCAN), a voluntary consortium that includes participants from George Mason, James Madison University, University of Virginia, and Virginia Tech, has won the Educause Award for Excellence in Information Technology Solutions.

Today, 70 years later, legislators and the American public are examining whether Social Security has met its objectives as stated by Roosevelt to “take care of human needs and at the same time to provide the United States an economic structure of vastly greater soundness.”

New Department of Parking and Transportation Opens Shop at Mason

A Department of Parking and Transportation within University Services has been established, and its new director, Josh Cantor, began work last Monday, just in time for the major decal sales days at the Fairfax Campus, which will be held in the Student Union Building II (SUB II) Ballroom beginning Aug. 22.
