Freshman women’s lacrosse midfielder Kelly Davis was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. Since the CAA began handing out its weekly awards five weeks ago, Davis has won the award in three of those five weeks.
Davis scored seven goals in Mason’s two games this past week. In the Patriots’ first game of the week, a 12-6 loss to no. 9 Georgetown on March 21, Davis accounted for nearly all of Mason’s offense, scoring five of the Patriots’ six goals in the game.
It was the second consecutive game and the third time this season that Davis has scored five goals. She added two goals, a ground ball and a draw control in Mason’s second game of the week, a 15-7 rout of St. Joseph’s in Philadelphia on March 25.
The freshman ranks among the nation’s best in goals per game, with her 3.14 goals per game average currently standing as the 20th-best mark in the country. She is fourth in the CAA in that category, as well as fourth in the conference in points per game (3.57) and tied for first in game-winning goals (3). Davis leads the Patriots in goals (22), points (25), shooting percentage (.595) and game-winning goals (3).
In addition to earning CAA Rookie of the Week honors the past two weeks, Davis also won the award on March 6.
Davis and the rest of the Patriots will play a midweek road game against the George Washington Colonials today in Washington, D.C. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
