Students Take Prizes in Virginia Vocal Competition

George Mason University’s Department of Music Vocal Studies program was well represented at the 2007 Virginia State National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Conference held March 2-3.

Of the 400 students in attendance from colleges and universities across the state, 14 were Mason students — seven of whom won in their respective category.

The following students received First Place awards:

  • Tiera Furby (Freshmen Women, 9-A)
  • Loralee Culbert (Freshmen Women, 9-B)
  • Rebecca Roberts (Advanced College Women, Graduate)

A Second Place award went to Wayne Jennings (College Junior Men).

Third Place awards went to Camille Crofton (Freshmen Women, 9-A) and Nichole Lewis (Sophomore Women).

Honorable Mention went to Ashleigh Hull (Freshmen Women).

First Place winners in each category received a scholarship check for $50, Second Place winners received $35 and Third Place winners received $25.

All of the winners are eligible to compete in the upcoming Mid-Atlantic Regional NATS Competition to be held at the University of Maryland, College Park in April.
