Sojourner Truth Lecture: Using Humor to Empower

The African American Studies and Women’s Studies Research and Resource Center will present the 2007 Sojourner Truth Lecture by Daryl Cumber Dance, professor of English at the University of Richmond, on Tuesday, March 20, at 3 p.m.

The talk by Dance, the “Dean of African American Folklore,” is titled, “S/He Who Laughs … Lasts: African Americans’ Use of Humor as a Means of Empowerment,” and will be given in Harris Theater on the Fairfax Campus. A book signing and light refreshments will follow the lecture.

This event is free and open to the public. Cosponsors are the Cultural Studies program and the Departments of History and Art History, Sociology and Anthropology and Psychology, as well as the Office of Diversity Programs and Services.
