Three scholars who are rising stars in their fields and well on their way to gaining national prominence for their contributions will be selected for $3,000 awards that will be presented at Provost Peter Stearns’ Celebration of Achievements event in the fall. The awards will be presented annually thereafter.
Tenure-track or tenured faculty who are within 10 years (no earlier than calendar year 1997) of receipt of their terminal degree and have been at George Mason for a minimum of three years are eligible.
Anyone may nominate an individual. A one-page nomination letter, along with the nominee’s CV, should be submitted to the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, 4400 University Drive, MS 3A2, Fairfax, VA, 22030, or via e-mail, firstname.lastname@example.org.
All nominations must be received by Monday, April 16.
The selection committee will include at least five senior scholars at Mason with expertise representing a distribution of fields. To find those scholars, the Research Council will first look at those individuals designated as university professors or other endowed professors at Mason. Other senior faculty may be recruited to create a review committee that has broad representation.
The faculty selection committee will choose approximately five to seven finalists, who will be asked to give the committee two or three outside references. The committee will contact the outside references and ask for a letter of recommendation that will focus on the individual’s rising prominence in his or her field.
