On the eve of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) men’s basketball tournament, Mason junior forward Will Thomas was named Second-Team All-District 4 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), making him eligible for All-America Honors.

The teams honor 150 student-athletes from 15 districts who are selected by member coaches of the NABC. This is the first such honor for Thomas.

Thomas led Mason in rebounding, field-goal percentage and blocks this year and was second on the team in scoring and assists. He averaged 13.7 points while shooting 61.1 percent from the field, and he grabbed 7.1 rebounds, handed out 2.2 assists and blocked 19 shots.

He is currently 14th in the nation in field-goal percentage after being as high as fourth. Thomas was named to the CAA All-Defensive Team last year and CAA All-Rookie Team in 2004-05. He was chosen preseason first-team All-CAA.

Thomas is one of seven players from the CAA named All-District.

The CAA Tournament gets under way in Richmond tonight with Thomas in action. Thomas will lead the sixth-seeded Patriots against 11th-seeded James Madison University at 8:30 p.m.

Third-seeded Hofstra University will play against the winner of the Mason-Madison game on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
