To avoid the risk of getting lost – or much worse, getting a parking ticket – a new, one-stop New Employee Welcome (NEW) Center will open at the Human Resources and Payroll Department on Thursday, Jan. 25. All new faculty and classified staff will now be able to complete their payroll paperwork and receive a temporary parking pass, photo ID and a benefits packet at the same location.
“We’re very excited about the NEW Center because we want everyone to feel as comfortable as possible,” says Linda Harber, associate vice president for human resources and payroll. “We want our employees to have a really positive experience when they come on board. To do this, we’ve streamlined the process of getting many of the new hire details taken care of on the first day of employment.”
The one-stop NEW Center eliminates the need to make an appointment with an HR assistant to complete new hire paperwork. However, it does not replace the mandatory orientation for new employees.
“Instead of just telling our new employees to go here and go there to get everything done, we will have it all centrally located to help them feel even more welcomed,” says Michelle Lim, human resources faculty liaison.
New employees are asked to stop by the NEW Center on the third floor of the Commerce Building, 4087 University Drive, Fairfax, Monday through Friday between 8 and 10 a.m. on their first day of work. Two free parking spaces are available near the entrance of the Commerce parking lot and are marked for use by the NEW Center.
