Only 500 lucky Mason fans, that’s who.
The Mason Traditions Committee has created a new tradition for 2007: distributing free spirit buttons at men’s basketball conference games. But unless you can beg, borrow or steal one, you’ll just have to go to a home game to snag your own limited edition button.
Mary Bramley pins a spirit button on her fellow classmate and Traditions Committee member, Andrew Day.
The buttons bear a slogan, sometimes cryptic, pertaining to the Patriots’ opponents. Only 500 of each slogan will be produced. So far, the committee has minted the following:
- “Virginia Is for Mas♥n” for the game against the College of William and Mary
- “Get a REAL Green” for the game against UNC Wilmington, whose school colors are teal green and gold
- “66 West, 81 South” for the game against James Madison University, reflecting directions to JMU’s Harrisonburg campus from Fairfax, Va.
- “Mush Puppies” for the game against the Northeastern University Huskies
According to member Traci Claar, the committee has selected slogans for the upcoming home games against Virginia Commonwealth and Delaware, but she’s not divulging what they are. The committee is still brainstorming ideas for the Old Dominion, Hofstra and Georgia State games.
“You’ll just have to come to the games to find out,” she says.
