The Academic Advising Center invites all members of the advising community to attend a web conference on Tuesday, Dec. 12, in Mason Hall, Room D3 A and B on the Fairfax Campus. The program begins promptly at 2 p.m. and will last about 90 minutes. A short discussion will follow the conference.

The overall topic of the conference is “Academic Advising Syllabus: Advising as Teaching in Action.” Specific questions to be covered include:

  • How do we communicate to students the purpose and value of academic advising?

  • How do we communicate the student outcomes for advising to students?

  • How do we communicate student and advisor responsibilities?

  • What “common language” do students, faculty, advisors and administrators need to understand if we are to clearly define outcomes, expectations and assessment of learning?
