Mason’s Women’s Team Finish Fourth; Men’s Place Seventh at Patriot Invitational

Mason’s women’s swimming team finished in fourth, while the men’s squad placed seventh at the Patriot Invitational on Sunday. University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), claimed both titles at the close of competition as the Retrievers’ men’s team finished with 1,037 points and the women’s with 772 points.
In diving, Mason’s Colleen Flack placed third in the 3-meter event with 252 points, while teammate Amanda Fielding tallied 236.45 points for a sixth place finish.
On the men’s side, Ryan Metzker placed third (261.10), while Justin Mallette garnered a fifth place finish (228.35).
In the 100-yard freestyle, Sarah Bizer finished in a second place time of 52.08, just .36 seconds behind Daniel Surkovich of UMBC. In the 200 fly, Brooke Crowther (2:09.33), Mallory Pucci (2:09.61) and Brittany Surkovich (2:09.67) finished in the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, respectively, while Katie Kelly (2:21.84) and Liz Ouzts (2:22.87) placed fourth and fifth in the 200 breast.
In addition, the 400 free relay squad consisting of Bizer, Morgan Hall, Kelly and Mallory Pucci placed third (3:32.27).
On the men’s side, Eric Knight swam the 100 free in a fourth place time of 46.80, just .08 slower than Tim Lane (UNCW), who finished third. The 400 free relay team of Tad Ogren, Knight, Josh Carden and Ellis Domenech ended in sixth place with a time of 3:12.74.
The Patriots will return to the Aquatic and Fitness Center on January 13 when Mason hosts Towson for CAA dual meet action at 1 p.m.
