Staff Senate Chair Michelle Carr announced that mid-term elections have been completed and welcomed three new senators who will be inducted on Nov. 8.
The new senators are
- Julie Manuel, reference assistant, University Libraries, Fairfax Campus. Manuel is a Mason alum with an MFA in Creative Writing. Since she began working at Mason, she “has continually taken the initiative to establish a forum for her peers throughout her various campus connections.” She “greatly appreciates the Staff Senate’s accomplishments, such as increasing the annual tuition waiver, the Employee Recognition programs and Staff Appreciation Day, and looks forward to advocating future benefits.”
- Sabyasachi (Boo) Dutta, payroll leave coordinator, Human Resources and Payroll, Fairfax Campus. Dutta grew up in east India, graduated from the University of Calcutta, and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2005. “I love to work with people, and it will be a great pleasure for me to work as a staff senator.”
- Tony Gould, IT services specialist, Information Technology Unit, Loudoun site. Gould has been eager to serve on the senate since becoming a Mason employee about a year ago. “I feel that there is now a strong need for our campus to be represented and to have a voice in university-related matters as they are put before the Staff Senate.”
In the coming years, the senate plans to tackle such issues as cost of living adjustments and security and data compliance.
