Mason freshman goalkeeper Sean Kelley was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week. In addition, Kelley was named to the Men’s College Soccer Team of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer for his efforts this past weekend.
Kelley tallied a goals against average of 0.00 as he earned two more shutouts to put his season total to eight. The Patriots defeated the University of Delaware at home, 1-0, on Oct. 6; Kelley collected eight saves. Two days later, the Kentucky native had 11 saves in Mason’s 1-0 win against Drexel University at George Mason Stadium.
Kelley has been in the net the entire season for the Patriots and currently leads the CAA in shutouts per game (0.67) and is second among conference peers in both GAA (0.58) and save percentage (.891).
Mason, ranked 22nd by College Soccer News, has won nine straight games for only the third time in school history and the first since 1998. In these nine games, Kelley has only allowed three goals.
Kelley has been named conference Rookie of the Week three times. This is, however, the first time Kelley has earned CAA Player of the Week honors, as well as being named to the College Soccer Team of the Week.
The Patriots, who are also ranked sixth in the South Atlantic Region Poll, will look to extend their win streak to 10 as they face Old Dominion University in Norfolk on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
