Board of Visitors Approves New Degrees
October 6, 2006
At its regular meeting this week, Mason's Board of Visitors (BOV) approved four new degree programs and a name change for the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.
The degrees approved by the BOV, which will be initiated in the fall of 2007 if approved by the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia, are
- MA in Anthropology
- PhD in Linguistics
- PhD in Communication
- PhD in Statistical Science
The proposed name change for the current College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences is the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. According to Dean Jack Censer, the new name comes from "a desire for it to reflect the many different units that make up our college, ranging from those often linked to liberal arts colleges to those with science as a charge." The change was unanimously approved by the college's faculty.
