Mason’s Forensics Team Opens Season with Explosive Wins

Continuing its tradition as Mason’s most successful academic team, the Forensics Team traveled to Ohio in September for the Bowling Green State University’s Falcon Forensic Classic and walked away with a truckload of awards.

Mason students won five out of the 11 competitive events and the team won the Overall Sweepstakes Award.

“I am so proud of this team,” says director Peter Pober. “They represent the university with great style and professionalism.”

The categories and award winners are

  • Prose: Jeff Moscaritolo, champion
  • Impromptu: Al Bender, second place
  • Informative: Dane Styler, sixth place (in his first forensics tournament)
  • Persuasion: Ian Summers, champion; Chrissy Kendall, second place; Colston Reid, fourth place
  • Programmed Oral Interpretation: Elliott Kashner, second place; Mickey Cox, third place
  • Extemporaneous: Al Bender, champion; Sean Hardwick, fourth place
  • Duo: Becky Shuster and Elliott Kashner, champion
  • Dramatic: Elliott Kashner, champion; Chrissy Kendall, third place; Tyler Fruge, fourth place
  • After Dinner Speaking: Jeff Moscaritolo, third place
  • Poetry: Tyler Fruge, third place; Rowena Gasmen, fifth place
  • Overall Top Novice: Tyler Fruge
