Golf Opens Season with a Fourth-Place Finish at Towson Invitational

The George Mason golf team began its fall season at the Towson Fall Invitational at Musket Ridge Golf Course, finishing in fourth place in the 13-team event.

The Patriots were sitting in seventh place after first-round action Monday and vaulted up three spots on Tuesday after cutting 10 strokes off their team total.

The Patriots had a two-round total of 592 (301-291), one shot behind host Towson University and one shot in front of Bethune-Cookman College. Boston College took team honors with a one-over par total, nine strokes better than second place St. Joseph’s University.

Junior J.J. Amoruso and freshman Justin Wingo led the green and gold, both finishing in a tie for 11th place overall, with one-over par totals. Senior Nick DeSimone shot 75 each day to finish in a tie for 26th. Senior Dan Hurley bounced back from an 81 on the first day to shoot a one-over par 73 on day two. Senior Trey Bressler rounded out the Patriots team, carding a 78-78=158.
