The fall 2006 convocation for faculty and staff is set for Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 3 p.m. in the Johnson Center Dewberry Hall. It is open to the entire university community.
The primary theme of this semester’s gathering is a celebration of Mason’s successes over the past decade. Ten years ago, President Alan Merten began his tenure as president. The Johnson Center also opened that year.
Since that time, the university has enjoyed a number of successes, ranging from its first major capital campaign and having a second faculty member win a Nobel Prize to seeing the Law School ranked among the top in the nation and becoming the largest four-year institution in Virginia. Also during this time, the university opened an overseas campus, made plans to develop a fourth campus in Northern Virginia, initiated the construction of a number of new facilities and launched a major effort to enhance its research capabilities.
