Visiting Art Historian to Lecture on the Korean Arts

Sung-mi Yi, emeritus professor of art history at the Academy of Korean Studies in Seoul, Korea, will give a presentation at the Fairfax Campus on the Korean arts on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Sponsored by the Korean Studies Center and the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, the lecture will be given in Student Union Building I, Rooms A, B and C.
Yi’s recent publications on Korean painting include “Fragrance of Ink: Korean Literati Paintings of the Chosun Dynasty (co-authored, Korean and English, 1996); “Western Influence on Korean Painting of the Chosun Dynasty” (Korean, 2000); and “Fragrance, Elegance and Virtue: Korean Women in Traditional Arts and Humanities” (2002).
Her husband, Sung-Joo Han, visited Mason when he was the Korean ambassador to the United States (2003-05).
Yi received a BA from Seoul National University, an MA from the University of California at Berkeley and a PhD in art history from Princeton University.
Yi’s presentation will include a PowerPoint and a question-and-answer session.
