George Mason’s men’s soccer team (4-2) extended its win streak to three as the Patriots downed George Washington University (2-3-1) at the Mount Vernon Athletics Complex in a nonconference match-up Saturday afternoon. The final score was 1-0.

In the 25th minute, sophomore midfielder Chris Carroll played through to the left side of the net and handed it off to senior midfielder Francis McCardle. McCardle then served it across to sophomore forward Dan Ames, who tapped it in the net to the right corner for the eventual game-winning goal. This marks Ames first goal and McCardle’s first assist of the season.

Freshman Sean Kelley was in the net the entire game for the Patriots and tallied three saves on the afternoon.

Mason outshot GWU, 14-11, and the Colonials had a 4-3 advantage on corner kicks.

The Patriots will return to action when they host Northeastern University on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. for Mason’s first Colonial Athletic Association match-up of the season.
