Staff Award Winners Announced

Twenty-six university employees will be honored with Outstanding Achievement Awards, Exceptional Support Awards, the Quill Award and the Martha J. Reiner Quality Customer Service Award at the Sept. 12 awards program presented by Human Resources and Payroll. In addition, the Staff Senate will present the Outstanding Supervisor Award.
The event will begin at 2 p.m. in the Johnson Center’s Dewberry Hall on the Fairfax Campus.
Most of the awards are presented twice yearly. They are based on nominations submitted for review by the Compensation Committee.
Outstanding Achievement Award
Outstanding Achievement Awards are presented for accomplishments that improve processes, save time or money or improve customer service and thus result in significant benefits.
Award recipients are Sarah Desmedt, College of Education and Human Development; Danielle Deulen, English; Christopher Dotson, University Police; Barry Freese, Technology Systems Division/Enterprise Servers and Messaging; Tara Hammond, School of Management; Diane Knight, Counseling Center; Mira Levine, Fiscal Services; Karina Mizrahi, College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences; Alastair Neil, The Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering; Stacey Remick-Simkins, English; Lisa Snyder, Orientation, Family Programs and Services; Joe Sobieralski, Office of Budget and Planning; Cathy Wolfe, Facilities; Reggie Workman, Facilities Management.
Exceptional Support Award
Exceptional Support Awards recognize Mason’s “worker bees,” those upon whom departments rely for the smooth running of daily operations. These employees demonstrate exceptional customer service, initiative, enthusiasm, commitment and energy.
Recipients are Earl Allen, Technology Systems Division/Technology Support Services; E. Teejay Brown, Student Academic Affairs; Lucinda Burke, Counseling Center; Jennifer Irvin, Human Resources and Payroll; Bruce Keen, Office of Admissions; Yolanda King, Equity and Diversity Services; Patrice Musco, Office of Budget and Planning; Richard Reo, DoIT, Learning Support Services; Ala Showers, Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution; and David Soorenko, College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and College of Science Undergraduate Academic Affairs.
This award, open to all administrative and professional faculty, is granted for working on projects or initiatives outside the realm of normal work duties that result in the advancement of the university’s mission. The recipient will have shared his or her expertise on projects that have contributed to the stature of the department and/or the entire university. The award also recognizes that the recipient displayed leadership while involved in this work.
The recipient is Wendy Payton, Office of the Provost.
Martha J. Reiner Quality Customer Service Award
This award is presented to individuals who have contributed to the enhancement of quality customer service at Mason. Criteria are exceptional initiative in “going the extra mile” to provide service to internal and external customers with timely and appropriate follow-up; responsiveness to the needs of students, patrons, or customers; and demonstrated improvement of customer service and satisfaction.
Todd Diamond, Information Services, is the recipient.
Outstanding Supervisor Award
Barbara Gomperts, office administrator for the English Department, was selected by the Staff Senate for this honor.
