John Spaldo, Mason’s assistant vice president of University Services since January 2003, has been named associate vice president for University Operations.
University Operations is a new division, and within this organization Spaldo will oversee the Safety, Police, and Parking and Transportation Departments; and University Services.
As assistant vice president of University Services, Spaldo has overseen auxiliary services and been involved in facilities construction and renovation projects.
He serves as co-chair of the Auxiliary Enterprises Management Council and participates on the University Process Improvement Council, Quality of Worklife Committee (presidential appointment), Johnson Center Policy Board, Northeast Sector Planning Task Force and the Crisis Planning Committee, among other committees.
According to Senior Vice President Maurice Scherrens, “John has proven over the past years to have the institutional understanding to coordinate effectively with a number of university departments, especially Facilities and University Life, as well as a variety of outsourced partners. John’s insight and result-oriented attitude will help us maximize the strong resources already existing in each of these critical operational units.”
Spaldo has been with George Mason since 1981.
As a result of Spaldo’s promotion, Chris Chisler, director of University Services since 1999, has been appointed interim assistant vice president for University Services. Chisler has had increasing responsibilities in auxiliary services contract management.
In her position as director of University Services, Chisler had oversight of Housing, Food Services and the All University Card Office. She is actively involved in the Northeast Sector Planning Task Force.
Over the years, Chris has overseen the on-campus bank and credit union and has been directly involved in several facilities construction and renovation projects, including the Liberty Square and Potomac Heights Housing projects.
“We are pleased Chris has accepted this position and look forward to the University Services programs growing and developing under her guidance,” says Spaldo.
The university will conduct a search for a permanent assistant vice president in September and October.
