Gifts to Mason Reach Record Levels

August 28, 2006

With more than $23.2 million received in new gifts and pledge payments during the fiscal year ending June 30, the George Mason University Foundation posted the best-ever cash flow in the history of the university.

And when counting new pledges and deferred gifts, the total for the year reaches a record $35.2 million, which includes the historic $10 million pledge from Ernst and Sara Volgenau. The number of alumni donating — 7,100 — also reached a new high.

"What a year it has been," says Mason Foundation President Judy Jobbitt. "We are grateful to all of our 16,676 donors for stepping up so generously."

Fried Gift Helps Close the Year on Top
A $1 million-plus gift from Barbara and Mark Fried for scholarships in support of the Campaign for Mason Students helped bring the fiscal year to a record close. The Frieds’ support for the campaign now exceeds $2.1 million, making them the leading contributors to scholarships in the university’s history. Barbara Fried is a trustee and former chair of the Mason Foundation, and Mark Fried served on the university’s Board of Visitors.
