Koucheravy Nabs Eighth-Place Finish at National Swimming Championship

George Mason University senior Tom Koucheravy swam a strong race on Saturday to finish eighth in the 1,500-meter freestyle race at the 2006 ConocoPhillips Swimming National Championships at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine, Calif.
Koucheravy finished in a time of 15:27.73. Erik Vendt (Club Wolverine) won the event in a time of 15:05.41.
Koucheravy made the finals after swimming one of the best races in his career as he shaved 21 seconds off of his personal best time to place third with a time of 15:17.09 in the preliminaries.
Throughout the year, Koucheravy has earned numerous honors for his efforts in the pool, including being named Colonial Athletic Association Male Swimmer of the Year for the second consecutive year and CAA Male Swimmer of the Championships for the second year in a row. Koucheravy was also featured in Sports Illustrated’s `Faces in the Crowd’ (Jan. 9) and was named CAA Male Swimmer of the Week twice during the 2005-06 campaign.
