You never know where Mason alumnus and actor Archie Kao, BA Communication ‘92, is going to show up.

You might catch Kao each week on his hit TV drama “CSI,” but he also might show up on a Best Buy commercial or in a guest appearance on “ER.” This month Kao was highlighted in People magazine as one of America’s hottest bachelors.

Kao admitted he was surprised to be named to the list and had no idea he was in the running. “But I would definitely put it up there as one of the greatest compliments I’ve ever gotten,” he says. Kao joined singers JC Chasez and Ace Young of “American Idol” on the “Today Show” last week to promote the issue of People.

While at Mason, Kao served as president of Student Government and was even voted Homecoming King one year. Since graduation, he has attended a number of Homecomings and reunions and stays connected with his Sigma Chi fraternity brothers.

“It was a big year for Mason,” says Kao, referring to the hoopla surrounding the men’s basketball team’s run to the NCAA Final Four. “It’s been exciting to watch.”

Kao is not the first alumnus to be named to People’s hottest bachelor list. Mike Kohn, BS Health, Fitness and Recreation Resources ’97, was named to the 2003 list after winning a bronze medal in the four-man bobsled competition in the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

Oh, and for those who might be interested – one of the things Kao looks for in a woman is a sense of humor. “I know it sounds cliché,” he says, “but you can tell a lot about somebody by their sense of humor.”
