The recent success of the men’s basketball team put George Mason in the national spotlight. As a result, the university has received increased interest from individuals in the local community as well as across the United States.

The additional attention has caused men’s basketball tickets for next season to sell briskly.

“We have seen a great surge in new men’s basketball season tickets,” says Andy Ruge, associate athletic director of intercollegiate athletics.

Thus far, ticket sales are up 25 percent compared to last year, and Ruge expects more sales as the year progresses. “Once our full marketing hits, we expect it to grow significantly.”

Group and season tickets are currently on sale for the men’s basketball games. Mini-season ticket sales, which include either three- or six-game passes, go on sale Sept 1.

While none of the games are completely sold out, Ruge expects the home opener to be packed. Individual tickets for the home opener, as well as for the rest of the 2006-07 season, go on sale Nov. 1.

“We recommend getting group or season tickets before then … season tickets are going to be the best chance to get the best seats,” says Ruge.

As a result of increased sales, the ticket office moved back the deadline for season ticket renewals. Season ticket holders requesting additional seats for the 2006-07 season must now complete an application by July 1. Mini-season ticket holders who wish to upgrade to a full season pass should also submit an application by July 1.

Applications for new season ticket sales are due by Aug. 1.

The 2006-07 men’s basketball team’s schedule will be published in September; the opening game will be in November.
