Junior Tom Koucheravy earned the honor of Colonial Athletic Association Male Swimmer of the Year for the second year in a row as voted on by the head coaches of the conference.

Koucheravy, a sports management major, took first place in the 200, 500 and 1650-yard freestyle at the CAA Championship in leading the Patriots to a second-place finish. The junior shattered his own meet record in the 1,650 free with a time of 15:05.35 to capture the event for the third year in a row.

He also set a CAA meet record in the 500 free with a time of 4:23.59 and was first in the 200 free with a time of 1:39.36. Koucheravy qualified for the NCAA Championship in two events, placing 12th in the 1,650 freestyle and 14th in the 500 freestyle to earn All-America honors in both events.

Throughout the year, Koucheravy earned numerous honors for his efforts in the pool, including being named CAA Male Swimmer of the Championships for the second year in a row. Koucheravy was also featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” (Jan. 9) and was named CAA Male Swimmer of the Week two times during the 2005-06 campaign.
