Music Department Presents Annual Music Scholarship Concert

Students from the Department of Music will perform in the 10th annual Music Scholarship Concert on Friday, April 28, at 8 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall on the Fairfax Campus. The concert, which helps raise money for the department’s scholarship fund, will feature winners of the 2006 Department of Music Concerto Competition.
Other groups performing are:
- the George Mason Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Anthony Maiello
- the George Mason University Chamber Singers, conducted by Stan Engebretson
- the George Mason University Chorale, conducted by Lisa Billingham
Featured works are “Russian Easter Overture” by Rimsky-Korsakoff and “1812 Festival Overture” by Tchaikovsky, as well as works by Mozart, Dvo?ák, Massener and Pasculli.
Joseph Denti, a candidate in the Higher Education Program , will join the concert as guest conductor. Denti received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education from Duquesne University. He has taught instrumental music at all levels in the public schools of western Pennsylvania and served as a musicianship and eurhythmics instructor at Duquesne University’s city music center. He has performed as principal tuba with a number of brass ensembles and orchestras in Pittsburgh.
