Burton Named to Washingtonian Music Hall of Fame

Stephen Douglas Burton, professor and Heritage Chair in Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, was recently named to the Washingtonian Magazine Washington Music Hall of Fame.
According to the Washingtonian web site, “Artists on this list have achieved sustained national or international influence or have contributed greatly to the Washington music scene. They also have lived or worked extensively in Washington during a significant part of their careers.”
Burton is retiring from George Mason at the end of the spring 2006 semester. As a composer, he has had his work performed by some of the leading ensembles in the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra.
