“Chrisi West exemplifies service with a smile,” says Stephanie Hay, coordinator of communications for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). Hay is referring to the office assistant in CAS who was named Employee of the Month for April.
“I am completely surprised, [and] I’m grateful to be recognized,” says West. As an office assistant, West directs calls, coordinates university events and manages employee schedules.

“You have to cultivate relationships with people [and] be on good terms with everybody,” says West. She believes an office is most productive when employees see each other as friends, not just co-workers. Accordingly, West and staff members in CAS spend time together outside the office. This cultivates a more efficient and collegial office environment, according to West.
Her coworkers describe her as an affable employee who is able to multitask on a variety of projects. Hay notes that with West, one can have confidence that the job will always be done correctly.
Heather Aleknavage, an executive assistant in CAS, praises West for handling complaints efficiently. Even under pressure, West is cordial and cool-headed, she says. “[West] is always friendly; she has an even-keel demeanor.”
Several employees note that West is able to follow through on numerous tasks while keeping a positive attitude. “Chrisi is a quick learner with a good attitude. She multitasks with ease, and she remains upbeat and positive during busy times,” says Dee Ann Holisky, senior associate dean in CAS.
