When you hear the sound of music – singing, that is – in the Johnson Center on the Fairfax Campus this week, it’s likely an “Idol” wannabe trying to impress the judges.

It’s not “American Idol,” but rather “Mason Idol.” In its own version of the popular television competition, Mason’s Student Government is holding auditions this week in Room 16, just off the Food Court, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday. And while the judges aren’t Randy, Paula and Simon, they are Mason faculty members with some expertise in music, according to organizer Claudia Bruzzo.

After auditions, the first round of competition will be staged in the Food Court on March 21 and 22; the second round on April 5 and the final round on April 20. All public presentations will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on those days.

Participation in the competition is free, and prizes, including cash, will be given. For more information, e-mail
