Mason Dance and Cheer Teams Make Strong Showing at National Championships

George Mason Dance and Cheerleading teams participated in the 2006 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship, held this past weekend at Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Fla.

The Masonettes placed in the top 10 for the eighth straight year of the nation’s 20 best college dance teams, finishing in fifth place, improving on last year’s result by one spot.

California State University-Fullerton won the competition, and Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival University of Delaware finished just ahead of Mason in fourth place.

The Co-ed Cheerleading Team placed in the top 5 for the fourth straight year, notching a fourth place finish. The squad from Morehead State University won the competition, followed by Western Kentucky University. CAA rival University of Delaware finished third. Mason’s All-Girl Cheer Team did not advance to the finals.
