The University Libraries are establishing a memorial fund in memory of Mike Terry, physical sciences, mathematics and New Century College reference and liaison librarian, who died unexpectedly in October 2005 at age 38.
Terry had worked at Mason since 2003. He earned his MLS from the Catholic University of America and an MA in English from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Previously, he held a library associate position with the National Geographic Society and served as an English instructor with the Education Ministry of Japan, part of the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program.
This is the first memorial fund established by the University Libraries’ staff in memory of a faculty or staff member. Funds will be used to purchase library books in the subject areas which were of particular interest to Terry: environmental science and policy, roller coasters, author Herman Melville and Japan and Japanese culture.
Contributions to the memorial fund may be made to the George Mason University Foundation, c/o the Mike Terry Memorial Fund. Books added to the collection from the money donated will be tagged with a special book plate honoring Terry.
