Administration of Justice Research Professor C. Allan Turner was recently interviewed by the History Channel for its series, “Heroes under Fire,” and he will appear in an episode that will air nationally on Friday, Dec. 9, at 10 p.m.
The episode, “Prison Siege,” documents the riots and siege of the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary in 1987. Cuban and American prisoners seized control of the maximum security facility and took more than 100 federal prison staff members hostage.
After a tense two-week standoff, the incident was safely resolved through a joint effort by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, U.S. Army Delta Force, FBI Hostage Rescue Team and other law enforcement agencies. Turner, a former Federal Bureau of Prisons warden, served as a crisis manager throughout the siege. His experiences will be recounted in the program.
