Boy scouts visit scientists
Webelo Scouts and family guests from Pack 1364 at Antietam Elementary School in Lake Ridge met with researchers at the Prince William Campus to learn about careers in science. Emanuel Petricoin, left, and Lance Liotta, co-directors of the Center for Applied Proteomics and Molecular Medicine (CAPMM), and colleague David Geho talked informally with the group about different types of scientists, career preparation, and the challenges and rewards of scientific experimentation and discovery. CAPMM scientists Virginia Espina and Julia Wulfkuhle also helped the children learn about the uses and properties of dry ice, identify cells under a microscope and use a laser to segregate diseased cells from a biopsy sample.
