Faculty forum on free speech
Faculty speakers and students expressed their views on free speech during an open hour-and-a-half-long forum on Oct. 5 in Student Union Building I. The forum stemmed from an incident on campus the previous week in which a student protesting military recruitment was arrested. “George Mason University reiterates its deep commitment to the freedom of speech,” Provost Peter Stearns said in a statement shortly after the incident. The university is currently investigating the incident and conducting a review of its relevant policies “to make sure they are compatible with freedom of speech.”
