First-Year Forensics Team Members Place in Tournament

The award-winning Forensics Team in the Department of Communication began the 2005-06 season with all eight first-year team members placing at an East Coast tournament held Sept. 24-25.

“We entered eight students and took five championships, two second places and one fourth place,” says Peter Pober, Forensics Team director. “It was unbelievable to watch.”

Student standings were as follows:

  • Dani Ertel: first place, Informative Speaking

  • Matt Friedman: first place, Dramatic Interpretation

  • S.R. Hilliard: first place, Extemporaneous Speaking

  • Jimmy Marks: first place, Prose Interpretation

  • Sarah Stone: first place, Persuasive Speaking

  • Claire Forman: second place, Informative Speaking

  • Jeff Moscaritolo: second place, Prose Interpretation

  • Sophia Chumpitaz: fourth place, Impromptu Speaking

The team also hosted and competed in the Virginia is for Lovers Fall Swing tournament on campus this past weekend. The team placed first, beating the second place team by more than 50 points.

“The year is off to an incredible start,” says Pober.
