Mason Sends Check to Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund; Other Efforts Continue

Human Resources combined funds given by members of the Mason community and sent a check totaling $2,245.12 to the Combined Virginia Campaign Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. Donations came from all three Mason campuses.
The total included cash and checks collected at various outlets on the campuses, as well as money raised by the Staff Senate through Mardi Gras bead sales.
Other relief efforts are continuing. They include:
- A benefit performance of “Three Hotels” on Thursday, Sept. 29, in Harris Theatre on the Fairfax Campus. Fifty percent of proceeds from the performance will be given to the American Red Cross. Click here for ticket information.
- Patriot student-athletes will collect donations at the men’s soccer game against Virginia Commonwealth University on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.; and the women’s soccer game against James Madison University on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. In addition, Patriots soccer head coaches Greg Andrulis and Diane Drake will team up to conduct a soccer clinic from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1. The one-hour clinic will be held on the Fairfax Campus athletic practice fields. A $25 fee for participating will be divided between the Salvation Army and the Red Cross.
- The Office of Orientation and Family Programs and Services, the College of Education and Human Development and University Life are collecting toiletries and other essential items for victims. The collection will end on Thursday, Sept. 29. Items can be dropped off at the Fairfax Campus in Student Union Building I, Room 349; and the Johnson Center, Room 245. On the Prince William Campus, donations can be dropped off at the Occoquan Building, Room 217.
