When they return this fall, George Mason students will be greeted by the aroma of barbecued ribs with the opening of an on-campus Damon’s Grill restaurant operated by Sodexho, the university’s campus dining partner.
The 150-seat restaurant will be located in Student Union Building I (SUB I) and is scheduled for a “soft” opening in late August to prepare for a full-service schedule at the beginning of the fall semester. It will be open for lunch and dinner, serving into the late-night hours.
According to Damon’s corporate headquarters, Mason will become the country’s first university to provide students and staff with a full-service, branded casual dining restaurant. The sports-themed Damon’s will feature the chain’s signature Clubhouse equipped with giant video screens for sports, network programming, and interactive entertainment, as well as tiered seating and tabletop speakers. Plans also call for a bar, a “fast casual” quick-service dining area, and a curbside delivery service. Damon’s also will cater campus events.

“Whether our guests wish to enjoy dinner and catch the latest sporting events in the Clubhouse or grab a fast meal or snack, Damon’s will provide something for everyone,” says Mohsen Emami, general manager of Mason Dining Services.
Sodexho, the nation’s largest food and facilities management company, recently renewed its partnership with George Mason. The new 10-year agreement includes increased dining options and program enhancements in residential, retail, and catering programs across all campuses. Other plans for the Fairfax Campus this fall include a second Jazzman’s Café and a national chicken eatery, both to be located in SUB I.
Damon’s Grill, based in Columbus, Ohio, is known for its barbecued ribs and big-screen entertainment. It is one of the nation’s largest casual dining chains and has 120 locations worldwide.
