George Mason senior Marc Kellman, a communication major, placed 12th in Saturday’s finals of the triple jump at the NCAA 2005 Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships held on the campus of California State University-Sacramento (Sacramento State University).
Kellman fouled on his three attempts in the event and did not advance to the next nine-man round. However, his showing was an improvement over his 23rd-place finish from a year ago at the meet.
“He had a disappointing meet, but he had a great year,” said interim head coach Skeeter Jackson on Kellman’s performance. “With the quality of the field, if he had jumped well, he could have placed in the top five. He was an All-American indoors, and I thought he had a great breakthrough season.”
Kellman earned All-America honors in the triple jump at the 2005 NCAA indoor championships after finishing fifth overall. He also won the triple jump at the Raleigh Relays and placed first in the event at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships. He owns the top five Patriot marks this season in the triple jump and leaped a personal best 15.83m at the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America Championships, where he finished second.
