The George Mason community is invited to the Child Development Center’s 10th Annual Silent Auction and Spaghetti Supper on Friday, May 27, from 5:30 to 7:45 pm. All proceeds from the supper and auction will help purchase new playground equipment and toys and fund the center’s summer and fall programs.
Nearly 60 items will be auctioned, including birthday party collections, summer toys, DVDs, Xbox and Playstation 2 games for the kids, as well as great items for grownups, including gift certificates to local restaurants and an annual membership to Mason’s Aquatic and Fitness Center. Baked goods will also be offered for sale at the event.
Families are encouraged to participate. Special events are planned for children while parents bid on auction items. Author Edward Allan Faine will read from his book, The Balloon Galloon, and an artist will be on hand to entertain children with balloon creations. All children of the Mason community, not just center attendees, are welcome. Registration for the children’s events is $3 in advance, and includes a Balloon book for each child. The spaghetti supper begins at 5:30 p.m. and costs $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Past auctions have allowed the center to purchase new computer programs and classroom tables. Since 1992, the Child Development Center has provided quality care for children ages two to five whose parents are part of the George Mason community. Each year, the center hosts the silent auction to raise funds for activities and supplies not funded by fee income. The ability of the center to fully enrich the intellectual and social development of its children is dependent upon income from this event.
