For students who are interested in global affairs or want to share their opinions about world events, the Global Affairs Forum is just the thing.
“There are a lot of students at Mason who have a vested interest in world events, especially things like the conflict in Israel, the war in Iraq, or the aftermath of the tsunami in Asia,” says student Christina Musick, who helped organize the forum. “What we’re trying to do is present a medium in which people can discuss whatever they are interested in.”
The Global Affairs Forum began last fall when Johanna Bockman, director of the Global Affairs Program, moved to La Patisserie for her office hours and welcomed anybody who wanted to discuss world events.
The idea was expanded into an organization directed to students with an interest in global affairs. The Global Affairs Forum plans to host a panel of experts on a range of topics, such as globalization, Sudanese genocide, and AIDS in Africa.
“The exact course of the forum is really in the hands of those who get involved,” says Musick.
